4pm Updated Hurricane Irma Statement from the Elmore County Commission

Sunday, Sept 10, 2017, 4 pm CST.

The Elmore County Commission urges citizens to continue preparations for the impending effects of Hurricane Irma. Elmore County personnel continue to monitor the storm and its timing as to its effects on the citizens of our county and the river region.
Our county is currently forecasted to see 20-40 mph sustained winds with gusts reaching up to 60 mph beginning Monday morning into Tuesday morning. An estimated 2-4 inches of rain is expected during the duration of this event. Downed trees and power lines will be the major expected impacts throughout the county.
Prepositioned resources throughout the county will aid in our response and recovery along with assistance from our volunteer fire departments, public utilities and other volunteer agencies. Citizens are urged to limit travel during the high winds as first responders and public works personnel will be actively working to keep roads open and ensure utility crews can perform the necessary repair work to restore power.
The Elmore County Commission encourages all citizens to shelter from the tropical storm force winds anticipated. Safer Places will be activated as needed including the Old Elmore County Courthouse where individuals can seek refuge from the storm.
The Elmore County Commission urges citizens to keep updated to county specific impacts through our County EMA webpage (www.elmorecoema.com) along with our twitter feeds ( @ElmoreCoEMA2 and @ElmoreComm).
