Elmore County would like our citizens to be aware of an annual test of the emergency alert system being conducted today Alabama Power. Alabama Power’s notice states:
“Alabama Power & SCG Hydro Services will be conducting our annual test of the emergency alert system on Wednesday, October 24, 2018. The system is used to notify residents immediately downstream of Harris, Lay, Mitchell, Jordan, and Bouldin Dams in the event of an emergency.
The language we use during the test is very clear to convey that it is only a test, and no actual emergency is taking place. However, occasionally members of the general public might call their local business office, their county EMA office, or the dam itself to find out more information. With this in mind, please let appropriate personnel know that we will be conducting this test on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at around 2:00 PM CDT, so they can appropriately respond to any calls that might come in around this time.”
