Lightning is the “underrated killer”. The summer months of June through September are the deadliest as far as lightning is concerned. In 2017, 16 people died across the US from lightning strikes. Of these 16 fatalities, 8 were in our area with 3 in Alabama and 5 in Florida. Of those 8, 2 were on a construction site, 2 were at the beach, 2 were outside (walking or on a porch), 1 was boating, and 1 was camping.
There were 36 fatalities in 2016 and 27 fatalities in 2015 nationwide from lightning strikes.
