Elmore County Economic Development Authority Hosts National Qualifier Fishing Tournament

On March 1st and 2nd, the Elmore County Economic Development Authority will host the Crappie Masters All American Tournament Trail on the Alabama River and Lake Jordan.  This Alabama State Championship is open to the public with the top 10 teams qualifying for the National Championship.  Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters is the nation’s premier crappie fishing tournament trail with a goal of providing competitive crappie fishing for grass roots anglers, weekend anglers, competitive anglers, and families.

Teams wishing to compete may still register at www.crappiemasters.net.  Entry fee is $350.00 and at least one team member must attend the registration, seminar and rules meeting on Thursday, February 28th at the Alabama Wildlife Federation NaturePlex, 3050 Lanark Road, Millbrook, AL. Registration will be from 5:00pm to 6:30 pm with the Rules meeting beginning at 6:30 pm.

Fishable waters include the Coosa River south of Highway 14, the Tallapoosa River west of highway 231, all contiguous waters between these rivers, and Lake Jordan.  Fishing hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm each day with all teams required to be at the weigh-in by 4:00 pm each day.  The public is invited to attend the weigh-in at Bonner’s Landing Boat Ramp on Lake Jordan.

Charlie Bunting from Missouri says “I’ve been excited about coming back to Elmore County and the Alabama River. They have a great fishery and are known for producing monster crappie. When you add in all the great places to eat and visit, this makes for a great place to come back to for vacationing.”

“We are honored to support ECEDA and their efforts to promote tourism and our area’s natural resources by partnering  with Crappie Masters to bring this event to Elmore County,” Elmore County Commission Chairman Troy Stubbs said.  “I’m excited to showcase our county and what we have to offer including great lakes, rivers, and exceptional fishing.  Mother nature didn’t do us any favors on water conditions, but these teams are the best of the best and we are looking forward to another great tournament!”
