Elmore County Economic Development Authority Hosts Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association (ASABFA) State Championship

ELMORE COUNTY – On May 3rd and 4th, the Elmore County Economic Development Authority will host the ASABFA Alabama State Classic.  Approximately 230 qualifying teams from across Alabama will compete on Lake Jordan and the Alabama River. Each team consists of 2 student anglers and 1 adult driver.  Boats will depart from Jackson Lake Island (river option) or Bonner’s Landing Boat Ramp on Lake Jordan.  The public is invited to attend weigh-ins at Mill Creek Sports Complex in Millbrook, Alabama on Friday, May 3rd and Saturday, May 4th.  Junior division weigh-in is at 1:00 each day with senior high division at 2:00 pm.

It is the mission of the Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association to promote the sport of bass fishing among Alabama’s youth in a supportive, positive, and educational environment in which every student angler may develop angling skills, a healthy sense of competition, ethics, and an appreciation of Alabama’s natural resources in a team environment.

Mayor Al Kelley from Millbrook says “I’m excited that Millbrook is participating in this great team event and that these young anglers can enjoy our great river and experience the history of Jackson Lake, Millbrook, and the surrounding region.  Many thanks to Jackson Lake for their hospitality and SpringHill Suites for being the host hotel.  I wish all of these young anglers a safe and productive tournament and I look forward to seeing you in Millbrook on your next trip”.

“ECEDA is honored to partner with ASABFA and their efforts to promote our area’s natural resources,” Elmore County Economic Development Authority Executive Director Cary Cox said.  “The economic impact of an event of this magnitude is tremendous.  With an anticipated 950 hotel rooms needed we fully expect to utilize all available rooms in Millbrook and Wetumpka.  Add in over 2,500 meals, numerous tanks of gas, supplies, etc. and the return on investment becomes clear.  This does not include pre-fishing trips and of course return trips to re-enjoy what Elmore County has to offer”.

The Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association is the state of Alabama’s OFFICIAL governing body of high school bass fishing with a goal of getting young anglers in the state of Alabama on the water fishing, participating in conservation and learning to love the outdoors.
