During the September 23, 2019 Commission Meeting, the commission unamimously adopted the fiscal year 2020 budget. The nearly $34 million budget includes items such as an allocations for employee merit raises, reduced worker compensation and liability insurance costs, an increase in health insurance premiums, a new allocation to the Board of Education, a newly created IT position to free up a Sheriff’s department employee for law enforcement purposes, construction of Sheriff’s Operations Building to replace the January 2019 tornado destroyed facility, continued rotation of the county fleet to minimize ownership costs, the expenditure of County Rebuild Alabama Funds and Federal Exchange Funds, and the one-time capacity project matches for Redland Road corridor project and Redland Road / Firetower Road roundabout project that should begin construction in 2020.
