County Commission Response to Elmore County Prison Site Announcement

Today’s announcement by Governor Ivey of the future Elmore County State prison site brings mixed emotions in the county. The Elmore County Commission along with the neighboring municipalities, adjoining Autauga County, and other community partners have long been in lock step for years advocating that western Elmore County has been and continues to be a great asset to the state of Alabama’s prison industry. While today’s announcement shifts the future men’s facility to a site off Rifle Range Road in southeastern Elmore County, the Commission appreciates the administration’s recognition of Elmore County as an asset to the prison industry and looks forward to working with the Governor, her administration, our legislative delegation and neighboring local governments to begin the process of reimagining western Elmore County. In addition with the new men’s facility being located off a county road in southeastern Elmore County, the County Commission will also work to efficiently process the required approvals for the new utility installations and improvements to Rifle Range Road to accommodate the massive development and new impacts.
