On May 25th, the Elmore County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) hosted a Tabletop Exercise for an active shooter situation. During this exercise, the participants were given examples of scenarios to consider in the event an actual active shooter were to enter a facility. Participants were asked to consider themselves in this situation and how they would take action. Agencies involved in the exercise were Ivy Creek Healthcare, Wetumpka Fire Department, Wetumpka Police Department, Elmore County Sheriff’s and Dispatch Office, Elmore County EMA, State EMA, and Haynes Ambulance.
“The opportunity for all these agencies to meet together and exercise their emergency plans is vital to ensuring that we are as prepared as possible when an event happens. This tabletop exercise was very productive and everyone was able to identify gaps in their plans that can be addressed”, stated EMA Director Keith Barnett.
