Commissioner Desirae Lewis Jackson Appointed to the Alabama Local Government Training Institute Board by Governor Kay Ivey

On Friday, July 28, 2023, Governor Kay Ivey appointed Elmore County Commissioner Desirae Lewis Jackson to the Alabama Local Government Training Institute Board. The Alabama Local Government Training Institute (ALGTI) is provided by the Government & Economic Development Institute at Auburn University for Alabama County Commissioners. The ALGTI provides educational opportunities and leadership enhancements which foster the understanding of the importance of public service. Commissioner Jackson stated, “I am honored to be selected by Governor Ivey for this important role. Education is a key element public servants need to understand their role and responsibility to our citizens. I look forward to ensuring ALGTI resources continue to improve local governments across the state.”

Commissioner Lewis Jackson was elected to serve as Elmore County Commissioner in 2020, but she has been serving within Elmore County in various capacities for many years prior to being elected. Commissioner Lewis Jackson is a local attorney serving the 19th Judicial Circuit and surrounding areas. Commissioner Lewis Jackson is very active in civic organizations and community activities throughout Elmore County and the River Region. She is also involved in community theater, youth sports, her church and a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  Commissioner Desirae Lewis Jackson has served on the Elmore County Health Care Authority Board and currently serves as the Elmore County Commission representative on the Mid-South RC&D Council.
